Stuart recently retired after 38 years as a nurse and general manager at Aneurin Bevan Health Board. Having had MS for 40 years, and using a wheelchair for 25 of those, Stuart is an Ambassador of the MS Society. He has been its Vice Chair, a Trustee and volunteer for 25 years.
As Co-chair of the MSS Research Strategy Committee, Stuart is committed to research. In 2013, he completed a 60km Walk, ‘StuStepsUp’, raising over £74,000 for MS Research. 2020 was not a great year; Stuart was diagnosed with Leukemia, but after a year of chemo he now has been given the all-clear.
In 2013, Stuart was awarded the MSS Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with the MS Community and in 2014 received an MBE for ‘Services to people with MS’. Stuart describes himself as, ‘the luckiest guy he knows’, being married to Marie, having two great sons, Sean and Killian, plus a grandson, Eden.
